Managing Cookies

You can if you choose to, disable cookies from your internet browser and remove them from your computer’s hard drive. The process for this is different depending on your browser. To find out how to do this click ‘help’ on your browser menu or visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org/manage-cookies/index.html.

To enable cookies

If you’re not sure of the type and version of web browser you use to access the Internet:
For PCs: click on ‘Help’ at the top of your browser window and select the ‘About’ option
For Macs: with the browser window open, click on the Apple menu and select the ‘About’ option

How to check cookies are enabled for PCs

Google Chrome (v. 23 and newer)

  1. Click on the “burger” at the top right of your browser window and select “Settings
  2. Click “Show advanced settings” at the bottom of the page
  3. In the section entitled “Privacy” click the button “Content settings
  4. In the section entitled “Cookies” select the option “Allow local data to be set

Google Chrome (v. 10 to 22)

  2. Click “Options”
  3. On the left side of the browser window click “Under the Hood
  4. In the section entitled “Privacy” click the button “Content settings…

  1. Click on the “three-dot More Actions” button on the top right of the browser window
  2. Select “Settings” from the menu that shows up.
  3. Click “View Advanced Settings”. You’ll need to scroll down to the bottom of the page.
  4. Click the dropdown arrow under the “Cookies” field
  5. Select “Don’t Block Cookies” to enable them.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.0, 10.0, 11.0

  1. Click on the gear-wheel icon at the top right of the browser window and select ‘Internet options’, then click on the ‘Privacy’.
  2. Ensure that your Privacy level is set to Medium or below, which will enable cookies in your browser.
  3. Settings above Medium will disable cookies.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, 7.0, 8.0

  1. Click on ‘Tools‘ at the top of your browser window and select ‘Internet options‘ , then click on the ‘Privacy‘.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Press “Alt” to show the Top bar on Firefox the click on ‘Tools’ at the top of your browser window and select Options OR Click on the “burger” on the top right of the browser window and choose “Options”
  2. Then select the Privacy icon
  3. Set Firefox will: to Use custom settings for history.
  4. Check markAccept cookies from sites to enable cookies, and uncheck it to disable them.
  5. Choose how long cookies are allowed to be stored:
  6. Keep until:
    they expire: Each cookie will be removed when it reaches its expiration date, which is set by the site that sent the cookie.
    I close Firefox: The cookies that are stored on your computer will be removed when Firefox is closed.

Safari

  1. Click on the Cog icon at the top of your browser window and select the ‘Preferences‘ option.
  2. Click on ‘Security‘, check the option that says ‘Block third-party and advertisers’.

How to check cookies are enabled for Macs

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 on OSX

  1. Click on ‘Explorer‘ at the top of your browser window and select ‘Preferences‘ options.
  2. Scroll down until you see ‘Cookies‘ under Receiving Files.
  3. Select the ‘Never Ask‘ option.

Safari on OSX

  1. Click on “Safari” at the top of your browser window and select the ‘Preferences’ option then choose “Privacy
  2. Select on “Block cookies part”, the option that says ‘From third-party and advertisers’.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Click on “Firefox” at the top of your browser window and select the ‘Preferences’ option then choose “Privacy
  2. Under ‘History’, choose “Firefox will use custom settings for history“. You can now check ‘accept cookies from sites’ and then choose ‘Always’, ‘From visited’ or ‘Never’.

Google Chrome

  1. Click on “Chrome” at the top of your browser window and select the ‘Preferences’.
  2. A settings menu appears within the browser window. Scroll down and click “Show advanced settings…” to bring up the privacy options.
  3. Click the “Content settings” button, and then, to enable cookies, click “Allow local data to be set (recommended)“.

Opera

  1. Click on ‘Menu‘ at the top of your browser window and select ‘Settings‘.
  2. Then select ‘Preferences‘, select the ‘Advanced‘ tab.
  3. Then select ‘Accept cookies‘ option.
